Curbing the Crisis: Managing the Outdoor Cat Population Through Prevention

Does your apartment community or business have a problem with too many outside cats that do or do not appear to have pet parents? The Greater Charlotte area faces an outdoor cat population crisis, especially in apartment communities. This can be attributed to cats being left behind after a resident moves. If the cats are not spayed or neutered, the rapid reproduction rate means a community can quickly become overwhelmed with outdoor cats.

Panelists are representatives of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control and Friends of Feral Felines, a local, all-volunteer organization focused on working with citizens to help cats by saving lives through prevention. Our expert panelists will provide guidance on how to responsibly manage the outdoor cat population and offer valuable insights to help reduce the growing number of stray cats at your apartment community or business. Information will include:

  • How abandoned cats have created a stray issue at apartment communities and businesses.
  • Who you should and should not contact if you experience abandoned community cats or a stray cat overpopulation problem.
  • The importance of Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, & Return (TNVR).
  • Resources for onsite teams and residents on how to be responsible pet parents, thus helping to alleviate a stray cat population.
