Hurricane Helene Rental Assistance Fund

The Greater Charlotte Apartment Association (GCAA) has established a rental assistance fund to aid its members in providing housing for families affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. The $250,000 fund will offer direct payments to rental housing owners who provide short- or long-term housing to families relocating from the storm-ravaged areas in and around Buncombe County/Western NC. Owner-operators and property management companies in the following counties are eligible for assistance.

Eligible North Carolina Counties:

· Cabarrus
· Catawba
· Cleveland
· Gaston
· Iredell
· Lincoln
· Rowan
· Mecklenburg
· Stanly
· Union

Eligible South Carolina Counties:

· York

Gabrielle Bouknight, President of the GCAA Board, stated, "Our thoughts and prayers are with our industry colleagues, friends, family, and all those affected by Hurricane Helene. The GCAA, in collaboration with its owner-operators, developers, and supplier members, is proud to extend housing support to those in need by establishing this relief fund."

· The first request submission portal will be open from October 28th to November 27th.
· Approved funding requests will be paid out no later than December 15th.
· $1K per relocated household.
· No cap on PMC requests.

Payments will be made directly to the rental housing provider, and the provider must submit requests. Those who have already rehoused individuals from the affected area and are unsure about their eligibility to submit a request should contact info@greatercaa.org.
