Event Details

Have you ever had a domestic violence situation occur at your property?
Have you been trained to legally and ethically handle this type of situation?

In many states, Domestic Violence victims have specific protection from being evicted as a result of the DV incident. Still, even more importantly, HUD has recognized that Domestic Violence victims can be protected under the Fair Housing Act, as well. Let our attorneys bring you up to speed on the laws in your State that relate to tenants who are DV victims, Fair Housing Act implications for common DV situations, and how the provisions of your Lease may also impact your ability to file and/or evict a tenant in a DV situation.

Page Morgan, Senior Associate Attorney, and Cynthia Smith, Senior Associate Attorney with Loebsack & Brownlee, will discuss the most important legal issues associated with handling domestic violence situations on-site in North Carolina.

She then worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln Counties, prosecuting murderers. She practiced in that area for almost 30 years before selling her firm in 2022 and moving to L&B. She brings a wealth of civil procedure experience and trial strategy to the firm. Outside of work, she was twice elected to the Shelby City School Board and served 16 years in the Shelby Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) board. She is also a talented (well...enthusiastic) tap dancer and has been known to bring the occasional banana pudding to the office.

Cindy was an Assistant District Attorney in Gaston County for 8 years and a Criminal Defense Attorney for over 15 years.
