Mecklenburg County Passes Source of Income Protections Policy in County Supported Housing
On Sept. 20th, the Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed a Source of Income Protections in County Supported Housing Policy. The language in the County’s policy is almost identical to a similar policy the City of Charlotte recently passed.
The policy applies to any rental housing provider who gets funding, tax grants or incentives from Mecklenburg County. Rental housing providers receiving funding from the county will have to maintain records on the number of residents with vouchers and will be subject to an audit.
The intent of the policy is to ban rental housing providers that receive county funding from denying housing vouchers or any legal form of payment. The policy includes enforcement and compliance provisions and outlines violations. The effective date of the policy is September 20, 2022. To review the policy, click here.
