On May 21, Chief Justice Beasley issued new emergency orders about court operations in North Carolina. The orders extend some filing deadlines for filings submitted via mail and has postponed jury trials for 30 days of the order. All deadlines that have been previously extended to June 1st will not be extended any further with the exception of criminal matters.
Regarding summary ejectment and eviction hearings, the plan is to move forward with these cases while using social distancing, relying heavily on local court officials as they make decisions to put the cases back on the calendar.
