According to the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Court (COC) office, one in four residents come through their office annually, either as a victim of a crime, a juror, to probate a family member’s will, to get a divorce, or to handle a speeding ticket. That’s roughly 290,000 people. With that amount of foot traffic, you need all hands-on deck. The COC currently has 220 full-time employees. According to a study by the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, Mecklenburg County needs 36 more staff members to meet the demand.
