Greater Charlotte Apartment Association Supports Fair Housing
April is Fair Housing Month, a time to recognize the importance of equal opportunity in housing and to reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity and fairness in the rental housing industry.
The Greater Charlotte Apartment Association (GCAA) proudly supports the principles of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and the NC Fair Housing Act of 1983, which prohibit discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. These protections extend across the housing spectrum—from renting and buying a home to obtaining a mortgage or seeking housing assistance.
Fair housing is not just the law—it’s a foundation of strong, vibrant, and diverse communities. GCAA remains committed to promoting equitable access to rental housing and supporting education, awareness, and compliance throughout the industry.
The GCAA is committed to keeping our members informed and compliant with fair housing laws. We regularly offer educational opportunities that cover the latest fair housing rulings and provide deeper insight into the laws that prohibit housing discrimination. Our training sessions help members stay current on updates to protected classes, recognize prohibited practices, understand potential liability and enforcement measures, and explore effective strategies for ensuring compliance.
GCAA’s most recent fair housing class, “Fair Housing Ain’t Fair”, was held on April 9.
Together, let’s continue to build a future where everyone has a fair chance at finding a place to call home.
