The NC Building Code Council Approves Valet Trash Collection Services – Your Government Affairs Fees

Industry News,

The NC Building Code Council Approves Valet Trash Collection Services – Your Government Affairs Fees at Work!
At its September 1, 2020 meeting, the NC Building Code Council approved to amend the 2018 NC Fire Code, Sections 202,304 and to add 304.4, 304.4, 304.4.3. What this means:

  • All fire-retardant cans per the BCC’s specifications must be in place by January 1, 2020.
  • Valet trash providers and property management companies are required to follow policies and procedures related to the size, location, and placement of fire-retardant cans. In addition, registration is required.  Upon completion of the requirements, a registration certificate will be provided to the company for each site. The registration certificate shall be kept on the premises where the service is provided and made available to the fire code official upon request.

Sec. 304.4.4 containing “Revocation” language was not adopted at yesterday’s meeting but will go have to go back through the BCC adoption process.  This is good for our industry because the revised language will provide the violator an opportunity to comply to avoid revocation, which is consistent with the rest of the fire code.  The current language did not provide that.
